Highway 45- Nov. 8, 2009

This Sunday the kids and I will be talking about the Historical books of the Old Testament, starting with Joshua and finishing up with Esther. Last week we learned about Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, parents if you could practice these with your kids and make sure they have them memorized it will make it much easier for us to go on to the next set of books.

It is time again for one of our awesomely fun Highway 45 events, next Saturday November 14, we will be having a Picnic in the Park over at the Civic Center Park in Palm Desert from 11:00-2:00. The best part about this event is that its FREE! The kids just need to bring a sack lunch and be ready to have a great time playing some fun outdoor games with friends. Let me know Sunday if you have any questions.

Highway 45- Nov. 1, 2009

I have noticed more and more that a lot of the kids don't know the books of the Bible in order. So over the next few weeks we are going to learn a little bit about each book, splitting up the books in sections, while helping the kids memorize the books as they go along. This will be a fun and very useful lesson for the kids, and I love knowing that I'll be teaching them something they will use for the rest of their lives.

February 5th - 7th is Winter Camp for our fourth and fifth graders, it is $115.00 a student, and a $50.00 deposit is needed ASAP. Now I know February may seem like a long way away, but it will sneak up on us sooner than we'd like to think.

Highway 45

First off, I would like to give a big thanks to all the parents and kids that took part in our Pumpkin Painting event last Saturday. We had a great turn out and an even better time! Above is a picture of some of the amazing pumpkins the kids did. Thanks again!

This Sunday, October 25, will be a little bit different than most considering its the weekend before Halloween. Some of the kids might not understand why going to an event at church on Halloween night is not only safer but can be just as much fun, if not more fun, than Trick-or-Treating. So we will be acting out a short skit called, "A Harvest Carol", which is a Halloween spin of the beloved "Christmas Carol". The skit will explain the importance of going to an event like Octoberblast, instead of Trick-or-Treating, and encouraging the kids to get their friends to do the same. The skit will also provide them with fun facts about the early history of Halloween and how we should be celebrating the Harvest God has given us throughout the year.

It's coming!!!

Attention all families! October Blast is just around the corner and I am so excited about this year! It is going to be absolutely fantastic! We have so much fun lined up for everyone, and the candy is slowly starting to make its way over here. Make sure you don’t miss this family event from 5:30-8pm Saturday October 31st

1st, 2nd and 3rd graders this past Sunday learned about the story of Jeremiah if you and your family want to dig a bit deeper into the idea of listening to God, click here. The secret code for this week is “do it!”, be ready for another exciting week of “Spy Chase”.

Highway 45

This Sunday October 18, the kids and I will be reading 1 Corinthians chapters 2 and 3. We'll be discussing the importance of putting Jesus before anything and everything in our lives.

But before we dive into Corinthians on Sunday, we have an exciting event going on this Saturday the 17 from 3:00-5:00 in the Highway 45 room. The kids and I will have a great time painting pumpkins and I think some of the kids are even planning to put some of that paint on me. There is no charge for this event, just have the kids bring a small/medium size pumpkin(s), a friend, and to be ready for some fun!

And one more thing parents...last week we read Ecclesiastes, if you could remind your kids to have just one verse memorized from Ecclesiastes 3:2-8 that would be a big help for me.

The chase is on!

Continuing our study of the prophets, this week we spent some time talking about Elisha. We discovered that we can have peace when we are afraid because God is with us! Parents if you would like to explore this more with your children you can find the story in 2 Kings 6:8-23 and you can use this tool. The secret code word for the kids this week is earwax.

Parent's Night Out is an event that we do to allow parents a night out without the kids. Children ages birth - 12 are welcome to come from 6-9 pm the first friday of every month. The cost is just $5 per child and includes dinner for them. The next one is on November 6th so mark your calenders now, because you don't want to miss it!

Welcome to the new blog!

Welcome to the new blog for all of Children's Ministry at Desert Springs Church! The goal for this blog is to provide information to parents and volunteers here at Desert Springs. I am excited to be able to share all of the exciting things that we are doing in Children’s Ministry with everyone! Make sure to check weekly because there will be updates about what we are learning for each age group, as well as information about upcoming events!

Upstairs right now, we are going through an exciting series about the prophets of the Bible. It is a spy theme, called “Spy Chase” and the kids are asked to look for clues each lesson about the main point of the story. Last week we learned about Elijah and “I will only follow God”. This week we will be learning about Elisha, the story is found in 2 Kings 6:8-23 and the main point is, “I will have peace when I am afraid because God is with me!” I hope that this blog will be an a tool for you to know what we are doing in Children’s Ministry.
